The Horizon Condominium - Where do we stand today?

I would like to have a serious conversation concerning our lives and investments at the Horizon Condominium in NYC as they stand today. I understand there are others here who don't live in the Horizon, were hoping for Friday funnies or Archie's specials. (Archie- I hope you are mending well)

There has been and will be a lot of information and misinformation pertaining to many aspects of our co-existance here.

I hope that whatever comes into our emails, various blogs, snail mail, shoved under our door and discussed by other means is evaluated by each one of us who have a vested interest in our properties.

The first consideration, and then I will let you all think about this is:

ARE WE BETTER OFF TODAY THAN WE WERE 3 YEARS AGO?

I would like to begin with this observation. It seems that everything this Board has done has been for the short term. The idea would be to "flip" their properties. All of the money that has been spent over the past 3 years was merely cosmetic in order to sell what appears to be a superior building to an unsuspecting buyer. All of the money has gone toward inferior products and services which appear to the casual observer as a great first impression. Nothing has been done for the actual structural issues which are beginning to plague us. To this Board, it's not important. Why? Are they planning to sell their own assets in the short term? It seems so from this "lack of planning". Or is it a well planned scheme where they cash out and everyone else is left with the bills?

I am a medical resident with a wife and child who looked at the Horizon condominium last year as a convenient rental for me and family. We also think about the possibility of buying depending if we stay in New York after my contract. The process was so difficult we had to walk away from it and rent somewhere else that worked out fine. It looked like a very nice building.

That is a rather thought provoking analysis of the situation.

She must be re-elected. Zabar's and Sarges are counting on us to keep restocking her refrigerator each month. She can't support myself.

I see they taped and painted the leaking pipe on the back ramp rather than repairing it. Masking the leak won't solve the problem any more than sweeping dirt under a carpet won't clean a floor. Now the pipe will continue to corrode and the cement continut to erode while being masked. Good work!

The way they dealt with the filthy new pool chairs is that they removed some of the indoor lounge chairs. I asked the lifeguard this evening where they went. He said they moved them upstairs. I asked him why they did that and he told me they moved them because winter was coming? Really? Is this the best excuse they could come up with this time? The indoor pool chairs. Really?

I heard it was because one of the Board members caught someone sleeping on one of the chairs.

I'm recouperating very well at my wife's relatives down in Boca. TYVM for asking. We sailed down early, but I'm not sure if we'll do much traveling this winter.

We wish you well in your endeavors.

What could have possibly gone wrong?

We have a condominium president who ruined her brother's business along with the finances of other organizations.

We have a 45 year old treasurer who is a part-time gym teacher, for a mediocre community college, whose mother bought his apartment for him and still gets an allowance from her. Otherwise he would be living in the streets.

We have a nasty VP who is habitually abusive of the staff and her neighbors.

None of them have children but make policies for those inhabitants who do.

None of them have any visible means of support or have any other purpose to live other than the self-importance of telling their neighbors how to live and misusing their authority soley for their own benefits.

Come next month, goodbye and good riddance.

The correct answer is (F) None of the above.

Just kidding. The correct answer is (E) all of the above.

The next lie of the week question will be posted soon. I think it may be an oldie rehashed.

Okay. Here's the next question:

The first 3 quarters of 2011 treasurer's report:

a) Is a factual account of the building finances as audited by the proper accredited entities.

b) Balances the books by arbitrarily (and probably illegally) eliminating a $400,000 liability via an unpaid mortgage plus 6 years of retroactive interest. (Only 6 years because the law stipulates that as the maximum number of retrievable years f0r the interest, not the principle).

c) It's ______________(fill in any Non-Board member name's) fault.

d) All of the above.

e) None of the above.
