The Cancer is Spreading

Our co-op board has announced that Cooper Square is taking over the management of our building. Some of you have experience with them which made me want to see what we are getting ourselves into. It does not bode well as we have an extremely well-managed building and some of us are afraid of the bait and switch coming our way. He is a link to what I have found with a quick search. I am preparing to address our board so that they are aware and make an informed decision, and leave us an out should it become necessary.

As I read further it is obvious that the only positive reviews were written by Cooper and the negative review by its customers. Some of these are rather frightening. Does anyone here have any encouraging things to say about them. I would like to get an accurate view to base my oppinions and present to our board in an unbiased fashion.

Keep digging. If you care about your home and investment, it's all there, out in front.

Good luck. You'll need it.

You need to review the contract that your building has with your currently contracted management company. Somewhere in the contract there should be an provision if such a merger occurs. It may be vague as to whether the new company is automaticall accepted; what the terms are for continuing under the new manager, or whether there is an escape clause for your building. I imagine that they will say that the current manager is becoming a subsidiary of Cooper, but they will remain. As with any merger, that will change over time, and they will replace your people with theirs.
